Understanding Lombok

Lombok is a predominantly Muslim island — very different from neighbouring Bali. Around 85% of the population is Muslim, and Islamic culture is central to daily life here.

Five times every day, mosques broadcast the adzan (call to prayer) over loudspeakers across the island. Each call lasts 3–5 minutes and occurs at:

~04:30 Fajr ~11:45 Dhuhr ~15:00 Asr ~17:50 Maghrib ~19:00 Isha

This is a beautiful part of Lombok's culture — but guests who aren't expecting it can find early morning broadcasts disruptive, especially near densely-packed mosque areas.

💡 This map shows the sound coverage zones around every mosque on the island so you can make an informed choice about where to stay.
